Freshman goalie Corinne Boyles earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors after tallying 21 saves against Providence College on Friday night to help the Eagles force a 2-2 tie with the Friars.
This is the second time this season that she has been honored with the award.
Despite being down 2-0 heading into the second period, Boyles stood as the main backstop for the Eagles' defense against a Friars team that had defeated No. 3 UNH in New Hampshire on Saturday, December 5. Boyles turned aside the six shots that came her way in the second period, giving her team the best possible chance to fight back.
Boyles was one of the key figures in the Eagles' five-on-three penalty kill for over 1:30 in the third period. Stretching to make some terrific saves, the freshman netminder was able to keep Providence off the board until the two teams made it back to even strength.
Boyles' day came to a successful conclusion when she stopped all three Providence skaters in the shootout to give the Eagles their fourth shootout win of the season and an extra point in Hockey East.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, January 9, when BC hosts Yale at 2:00 p.m.
