Women's Basketball Falls To Michigan, 76-70

Chestnut Hill, MA - Sophomore Jasmine Gill notched her first career double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) to lead Boston College in a tough 76-70 loss to Big Ten opponent Michigan before 760 fans at Conte Forum.
The Eagles fall to 5-4 on the season, while Michigan improves to 7-2. Boston College will play in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday, December 13 in Madison Square Garden (1 p.m.).
BC senior Mickel Picco finished with 15 points, while Carolyn Swords had 14 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Kerri Shields had nine points in 10 minutes in the loss.
Boston College fell behind as much as 11 points in the second half. Michigan turned the Eagles turnovers into points all night long. BC's second half comeback was sparked by Shields who entered the game with 11:33 to play. The three three's by Shields cut the Michigan lead to seven points with eight minutes to play.
Two free throws by Brittanny Johnson (four points, six rebounds) cut the Michigan lead to one point at 4:24 in the half.. Two foul shots by Dayeesha Hollins (13 points) pushed the Michigan lead to four points, but a layup by Swords at 2:25 cut the lead to two points.
With 1:51 to play, BC committed its 20th turnover of the game and Michigan had the ball and a two point lead, 67-65. Hollins grabbed a missed three-pointer to give Michigan at 69-65. A missed jumper by Brown at the top of the key was rebounded by Michigan and the Eagles were forced to foul the Wolverines. Michigan hit three foul shots and the Eagles committed another turnover which put the game out of reach.
The Eagles opened the game with an 8-0 run just four minutes into the game. The lead was quickly erased when Michigan tied the game at 12-12 at 13:20 on a three-pointer from Veronica Hicks. The Eagles lead grew to four points at 8:40 when Mickel Picco hit a three-pointer from the baseline, BC 24-20.
The teams continued to exchange baskets until the 3:10 when Michigan took a one-point lead. A jumper by Jasmine Gill with 19 seconds to play tied the game a 34-34 at the end of the first half.
The host Eagles out rebounded the visitors, 49-29 but committed 21 turnovers. Michigan had 15 steals and 31 points off turnovers. Veronica Hicks led the Wolverines in scoring with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals. Jenny Ryan had 12 points and five steals.
