CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team fell to Vermont 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles are now 3-3-4 on the year while Vermont improves to 5-5-0.
Penalties were the story of this one as BC and UVM combined for 25 separate trips to the box. Despite the physical play, the two teams matched up evenly in the first period with neither team grabbing an edge over the other. The Catamounts managed to take a 9-6 lead in shots during the opening frame.
The penalties finally caught up to the Eagles over the next two periods as Vermont scored five unanswered goals against BC, the first four of them coming while on the man advantage. A late tally by sophomore Mary Restuccia was not enough for the Eagles and the two teams settled for a weekend split in the series.
Freshman goalie Corinne Boyles stopped 19 shots on the day while her teammates managed to outshoot the Catamounts, 25-24.
The Eagles will travel to Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 14 to take on the Huskies at 1:00 p.m.
