
Women's Soccer Downs NC State, 2-1

Freshman Victoria DiMartino scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute as the Boston College women's soccer team defeated NC State, 2-1, in an ACC match at the Newton Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.
The victory halted a two-game losing skid by Boston College. The Eagles, who lost to No. 5 Florida State and No. 1 UNC this past week, bounced back to improved to 10-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the conference. NC State is now 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the ACC.
The Eagles went up 1-0 on Jill MacNeil's first career goal. The junior forward literally just entered the game when BC earned a corner kick. Hannah Cerrone sent the ball toward the goal which sophomore Julia Bouchelle header towards the net. The ball was blocked and kicked around the box only to land on the foot of MacNeill. She then one-timed the loose ball into the top right hand corner for a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute of play.
NC State came back four minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. Paige Dugal picked up a long ball from Alyson Santilli at the 24 yard line. Dugal struck the ball and it knuckled into the top right hand corner in the 65 minute of play.
Victoria DiMartino would score her fourth game-winning goal of the season when she one-timed a pass from Amy Caldwell in the 72nd minute of play. DiMartino, who drew numerous defenders all day, one-timed the ball to the far left corner from eight yards out.
BC had another great chance in the 76 minute when senior Kelly Henderson made a run up field and ripped a shot from 20 yards out. The shot clanged off the left post and bounced outside the box.
One of NC State's best chances came just 15 minutes into the match. Tanya Cain broke in behind the defense and had a chanced from seven yards out. Cain's shot sailed high as BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni came out to cut the angle down. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
Boston College registered a 17-5 shot advantage in the game, including a 10-3 edge in the second 45 minutes. The Eagles also held the edge in corner kicks, 8-3. Victoria DiMartino led the Eagles offense with five shots.
NC State goalkeeper Kim Kern made three saves in the loss.

The Eagles next game is on Sunday, October 11 at 1 p.m. against Virginia ... Victoria DiMartino notched her team leading 11th goal. She now leads the Eagles with 11 goals, three assists for 25 points. DiMartino has notched a point in 10 of 12 games this season ... Amy Caldwell has now played in eight games, earned her third consecutive start. In the three games, she has notched a goal and an assist ... Kelly Henderson continues to earn the most minutes played on the team. The senior defender has not missed a minute of game time this season.
