CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - The Boston College volleyball team dropped its match to Virginia on Saturday night, 3-2 in the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
BC is now 11-11 on the season while Virginia moved to 9-13.
The Eagles kept a tight hold on the Cavaliers for the entire first set, fighting back from a deficit to set the score at 25-25. Despite the resilience, BC's 15 kills were not enough and the Cavaliers managed to take the first set 27-25.
The two teams resumed the back and forth action that had begun one set earlier, with the Cavaliers gaining a slight edge late in the frame. The Eagles could not muster up enough to top Virginia's kills in the set and the Eagles dropped the second frame 25-20.
Looking to make a comeback, BC attempted to find its stride in the third, but Virginia would not let the team take it easily. After a few extra points were exchanged between the teams, it was the Eagles who would emerge victorious, taking the set 29-27.
The Eagles continued to claw their way back from the two-set deficit, going up 15-10 in the fourth set. BC would finish the frame with 14 kills and 23 digs as a team to take the fourth set 27-25 and send the match into a deciding fifth set.
BC's comeback efforts would not hold, however, and the Cavaliers would take the final set and win the match, 3-2.
BC's offense was led by junior Melanie Cimino's 21 kills while sophomore Brennan Clark tallied 34 digs for the Eagles.
With her digs tonight, Brennan Clark also moved into eighth place on BC's all-time single season digs list, with 374.
The Eagles will travel to Durham N.C. for their next match, where they will take on Duke on Friday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m.
