Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match to Virginia Tech, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass - The Boston College volleyball team dropped a tough match to Virginia Tech on Friday night, losing 3-2 in the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
BC is now 11-10 on the season while Virginia Tech to 16-5.
The Eagles and Hokies kept the score close for the entire first set, knotting it up at 24-24 before Virginia Tech used its second timeout. Using it to their advantage, the Eagles finished off the opening frame with strong play and flew forth to take the first set, 26-24.
The Eagles looked to rebound in the third frame after Virginia Tech managed to even the match at one set apiece, with a 25-16 win in the second. Although BC fired back with 13 kills and a .205 hitting percentage, the Hokies were able to take the set 25-23 and a 2-1 edge in the match.
Despite dropping the previous two sets, BC continued to fight for a win on its home court. With the score set at 24-15, a final kill by junior Melanie Cimino gave the Eagles a win in the fourth set and sent the two teams into a deciding fifth frame.
The Eagles and Hokies fought with their last bit of energy to take the final set and the match. Although BC had made a great comeback in the fourth set, the Hokies' were too much for the Eagles to overcome and Virginia Tech was able to grab the final set and win the match, 3-2.
The BC offense was led by senior Taylor Williams and junior Melanie Cimino, who added 15 and 13 kills to the stat sheet, respectively. Junior Kristen Baader's 21 digs were also tops for the Eagles' defense.
The Eagles will return to the Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill tomorrow night, where they will take on Virginia at 7:00 p.m.
