No. 9 Field Hockey Earns 3-2 Victory Over Northeastern

Boston, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team got a goal from Emily Kozniuk early in the second-half and managed to hold on for a 3-2 win in a back-and-forth affair against cross-town rival Northeastern on a cold afternoon in front of 111 fans at Sweeney Field.
The win improves Boston College to 11-3 for the season, while the loss will drop the Huskies to 9-6 on the year.
With the victory today BC matches its second-best start in program history after 14 games at 11-3 overall. The 1998 team held a 12-2 record through their first 14 games.
BC opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game as senior Chelsey Feole scored her 17th goal of the season.
Northeastern came back to tie the game right before the half as the Huskies leading-scorer Crystal Poland tied the game at 1-1 off a pass from Carolyn Malloy.
The stats for the first half were almost as close as the score itself with BC holding a slim 5-4 lead in shots, while Northeastern had the edge in penalty corners 2-1.
Boston College grabbed the lead back in the 40th minute of play as junior Janna Anctil took a feed from Jessica Roberts off a penalty corner, and scored her eighth goal of the season.
Northeastern would not go down without a fight as it forced the second tie of the game at 2-2 in the 48th minute on a Malloy goal.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the 49th minute as captain Emily Kozniuk scored off of another BC penalty corner to give Boston College a 3-2 lead.
Senior goalie Kristine Stigas made six saves to help preserve the win for BC.
Boston College is back in action on Sunday, October 18th as it will travel to Durham, N.H. to take on the University of New Hampshire. The game will start at 3 p.m.
Game Notes: Feole's goal in today's game moves her up to 45 points for the season which is tied for third-place for the most points scored in one season in Boston College history...Feole is now also in sixth-place for the most goals scored in one season in Boston College history with 17...Anctil came into the 2009 season with 25 career points. She has now doubled that total to 50 career points because she has already accumulated 25 points this season.
