NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Boston College sailing team recently announced that junior Taylor Canfield, senior Christian Manchester, senior Chris Protasewich, and freshman Taylor Lutz have earned NEISA Coed Sailors of the Week honors. The four Eagles helped Boston College grab a first place finish at the Larry White Trophy, New England Sloop Championship. Canfield, Manchester, Protasewich and Lutz posted noteworthy results, finishing outside of the top three places only two times in the ten race series.
The BC team figured out the south-east winds of the Thames River, when most struggled. The victory qualifies Boston College, as well as second place Brown University, for the Inter Collegiate Sloop Championship hosted by the Coast Guard Academy on October 24th and 25th.
Sophomore Annie Haeger also captured her second consecutive New England Women's Singlehanded Championship in Dorchester this past week, and has been named NEISA's Women's Sailor of the Week. The Boston College standout won five of the fourteen races and finished outside of the top four places only once. Haeger finished four points ahead of second place Sarah Lihan, of Yale. Emily Billing and Claire Dennis, of Yale, as well as Elizabeth Barry, of Brown, rounded out the top five; all qualified for the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Championship, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
