
Women's Ice Hockey Shuts Out Vermont 5-0

Burlington, Vt. - No. 5 Women's Ice Hockey blanked the University of Vermont 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt.
The Eagles improve to 15-5-3 (9-3-1 in Hockey East) while the Catamounts drop to 4-19-2 (1-11-1). The victory marks the fifth shutout for Boston College in league play and sets a school record for single season shutouts for junior goaltender Molly Schaus with seven perfect games on the season.
After a scoreless first period, BC opened the gates with a goal by senior Becky Zavisza at 12:02 with assists credited to freshman Danielle Welch and and sophomore Katelyn Kurth.
With the Eagles holding a slim lead, Vermont had an opportunity to tie the game with a 2-on-1 opportunity late in the second but were stopped by Schaus.
Junior Kelli Stack closed out the second period by putting the Eagles up 2-0 with her sixteenth goal of the season.
Junior Allie Thunstrom started off the third period by netting a power play goal :52 seconds into the frame.
The Eagles continued their offensive onslaught with Megan Shea and Lauren Weidmeier netting goals four and five for the Eagles to close out the game.
BC out shot UVM 25-19 and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
Ten different players recorded points for BC and three players had multiple points for the Eagles. The Eagles and Catamounts close out the season series tomorrow, January 25 with a 2 p.m. tilt at the Gutterson Fieldhouse.
