
Women's Basketball Secures Win No. 15 Of the Season

The Boston College women's basketball team improved to 15-4 on the season with a 78-50 victory over non-conference foe New Jersey Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in at Conte Forum.
The Eagles were led by Stefanie Murphy with 15 points, while earning career-highs in blocks (4) and steals (5). Junior Mickel Picco added 13 points and four assists, while Carolyn Swords had 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard LaShaunda Pratt added eight points, five rebounds and two steals off the bench.
Boston College played a sloppy first half throwing the ball away 14 times. The Eagles did shoot 60 percent from the field and went 4-for-4 from the foul line and held a 29-26 lead at the half. BC's defense did hold NJIT to 24 percent shooting from the field.
A 12-2 run to open the second half gave the Eagles a comfortable 41-28 lead. In the Eagles offensive run, Murphy had five points while Picco added seven points.
The lead grew to 17 points at 13:52 when Swords grabbed a missed shot and put it up and in. NJIT could not cut into the Eagles lead as BC extended the lead to 22 points when senior Corey Rusin hit a baseline three-pointer for a 68-46 lead.
Boston College won the battle of the boards in the game with 43 rebounds to NJIT's 30. BC also had a 13 steals, while four players - Murphy, Picco and Ayla Brown all recorded four assists. The Eagles finished the game shooting a season-high 57 percent from the field.
Game Notes:
Mickel Picco extended her streak of making a three-pointer in 27 consecutive games, dating back to the 2007-08 season. She now has 54 three's this season, while the team has made 93 ... Stefanie Murphy not only set career-highs in blocks (4) and steals (5), she was perfect from the field (6-for-6) and free throw line (3-for-3)...Three players were perfect from the foul line - Swords (6-6), Murphy (3-3) and Rusin (2-2)...Boston College will host ACC foe Clemson on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. Any fans bringing canned goods to the game will receive free admission.
