Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College women's ice hockey faces off against Northeastern in the first round of the 31st annual Women's Beanpot Tournament at 8 p.m. on February 3, 2009 at Northeastern's Matthews Arena and fans can watch live online courtesy of the Pack Network.
Individual game passes can be purchased for $6.95. In order to view the games, fans will need a high-speed internet connection. Purchases can be made at www.packnetwork.com.
The tournament, played for local bragging rights and the coveted Beanpot Trophy, features teams from BC, Boston University, Harvard and Northeastern. Boston College has won two Beanpot Tournament championships (2006, 2007) and collected the Most Valuable Player Award twice, once by current senior Meghan Fardelmann, and four Bertagna Awards for the tournament's top goaltender. Junior Molly Schaus won the award in 2007 for her 73 saves against Harvard.
This year, the Eagles will skate against the hosting Huskies of Northeastern University in the semifinal match-up, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. Harvard and Boston University open the tournament in the 5 p.m. slot. The consolation and championship games will be played on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
The Beanpot is one of the longest-running women's tournaments in all of college sports. The first two Mondays of February have become fixtures on the calendar for the men's Beanpot, and the first two Tuesdays each February are a spotlight of Boston's finest women's hockey teams. Competition has grown increasingly fierce now that all four programs feature Division I teams, BC has taken the title twice in the past three years and is looking to continue adding hardware to its shelves.
