Women's Basketball Earns Fifth Consecutive Win

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team (13-3, 2-0 ACC) earned its fifth win in a row and second in conference play in front of 3,247 fans on Sunday afternoon, defeating Virginia Tech (8-7, 0-2 ACC), 73-62.
The Eagles had three players score in double-digits. Sophomore Carolyn Swords tallied 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Junior Mickel Picco contributed 18 points, while hitting six three-pointers. Junior Ayla Brown added 10 points and four assists.
Boston College knocked down five of its first eight shots and jumped to a 11-4 advantage early in the first couple of minutes. Sophomore guard LaShaunda Pratt scored a season-high nine points on a 3-for-3 shooting in nine minutes. She made three consecutive shots to boost the Eagles to their largest lead of the half, 34-19, with 3:19 to play in the half. Virginia Tech cut into the lead behind Brittany Gordon but the Eagles went into the half up, 34-25.
Swords tallied nine points in the first four minutes of the second half, helping the Eagles to a 47-27 advantage. The team took its largest lead of 25 points with 6:44 to go in the game. Sophomore Jaclyn Thoman was a catalyst in the run as she had four of her team leading seven assists in the half.
The Eagles shot 50 percent in the second half, finishing the day at 52 percent. The team scored a total of 34 points in the paint and blocked five shots. Virginia Tech was led by Utahya Drye with 18 points while Lakeisha Logan added 15. Boston College out-rebounding the Hokies, 41-24.
BC continues ACC action on Thursday, January 15, when the Eagles travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on Wake Forest. The game will tip off at 7 p.m.

Sophomore LaShaunda Pratt marked a season-high with nine points, not missing a shot from the field in the first half...This is the 12th game that Mickel Picco has hit two or more three-point shots...Stefanie Murphy knocked down her fifth three-point shot of the season...Swords earned her second double-double this week, both against ACC teams...Freshman Mia Nickson set a career-high in rebounds as she grabbed seven and added five points and a block.
