Boston College senior Alejandro Bedoya has earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week honors for the week ending on Sept. 23, according to an announcement made by the selection committee on Wednesday.
Bedoya registered his first career hat trick to lead No. 16 Boston College to a 4-1 home win over No. 7 North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 19. The Weston, Fla., native's first score came in the 43rd minute from 22 yards out. He doubled the BC lead less than three minutes into the half with a header off a cross from Mario Uribe and concluded the game's scoring and completed the hat trick in the 73rd minute.
Bedoya has scored three goals through five games this season.
Each week, a male and female player will be selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 10 through NSCAA.com.
They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men's and women's intercollegiate matches. This week the men's schedule features the nation's top two men's teams as No. 1 Wake Forest travels to No. 2 Maryland. Game time is set for 8 p.m. EST.
Bedoya was selected as the nation's top weekly performer by College Soccer News, Soccer America, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NSCAA for his performance last week.
Boston College, which is ranked No. 13 in this week's NSCAA poll, returns to Atlantic Coast Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 27 at NC State.
