Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College Women's Field Hockey team defeated the Boston University Terriers on Wednesday night 4-2.
After a week off, the Eagles got back down to businesses at the Newton Sports Complex.
The action in the first period kicked into high gear when senior forward Bob Dirks got the Eagles on the board early with a goal at 10:37 in the first period. Boston University quickly retaliated when junior Nikki Lloyd put one past BC goalkeeper Julia Berkowitz to even the score at one apiece.
The Eagles quickly retook control of the game when senior midfielder Katie Quaglia scored her first goal of the season with 18:57 on the clock. Terriers goalkeeper Kim Kastuk came out to play the ball but missed her mark. BU sophomore defender Maryette Stuart was there to make a defensive save and keep Dirks initial shot from going in and Quaglia was able to captalize on the rebound to put the Eagles up 2-1.
The Terriers didn't stay quiet for long however as forward Katie Murphy managed to beat Berkowitz and even the score a minute later at 19:34.
With the scored tied at 2, BC went on the attack hoping to enter halftime with the advantage. Dirks came through for the Eagles scoring her second goal and what would prove to be the game-winner at 20:44 to put BC up to end the first period.
The Eagles entered the half up 3-2.
The start of the second period was a battle for offensive control as the Terriers and the Eagles traded positions up and down the field without giving either team a clear advantage.
The Eagles gained the upper hand on an offensive corner when senior forward Bob Dirks outmaneuvered the Terriers defenders and slipped the ball past Kastuk for BC's fourth goal of the game. The goal gave Dirks her first hat trick of the 2008 season.
BC stepped up their defense and managed to contain the Terriers attack to record their fifth win of the season.
Boston College's next game will be their first ACC match-up of the season, as they travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins on Saturday at 1 p.m.
