Volleyball Excited About Incoming Class

Volleyball head coach Andrea Leonard offered high praise for the Eagles' incoming freshman class. The recruiting class includes Brennan Clark, libero/outside hitter, Tsvetelina Dureva, outside hitter, Clare Higgins, libero/defensive specialist, Mollie Kolosky, middle hitter, Jordan Meredith, outside hitter, and Marilyn Sullivan, outside hitter/defensive specialist.
This year's class is a diverse, well-accomplished group of student-athletes.
Brennan Clark, is a 5'9" libero/outside hitter out of Mililani, HI and University Laboratory High School. She also played for Jammers VBC and coach Debby Yee. Brennan was a Interscholastic League of Honolulu All Star, a member of the USA Volleyball High Performance A2 Development Camp, and Aloha Region, All Star Team High Performance Championships. Brennan was also runner up for the Miss Keiki Hula Competition.
"Brennan will make an immediate impact for us defensively," Leonard said. "She has incredible range and a natural touch on the ball. She is a consistent, and confident performer and we are very excited to develop her into our systems."
Tsvetelina Dureva, is a 5'9" outside hitter out of Sofia, Bulgaria. She played for Uchilishte 81 Victor Hugo High School and competed for the Zvezdi 94 and Pirin Balkanstroy Volleyball Clubs. Tsvetelina is an accomplished volleyball player, and competed in a very strong league in Bulgaria. She has been a starter since age 12.
"Tsveti is an exciting young player, with an impressive vertical jump," Leonard said. "She is a poised, intelligent veteran of the game and we look for her to make an immediate impact for us offensively. She is a calm and controlled player who sees the court exceptionally well. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting season with Tsvetelina."
Clare Higgins is a 5'7 libero/defensive specialist out of Irvine, Calif. Higgins played for Woodbridge High School and Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club where she was coached by Ki Yi. She is a first-team All Sea-View League and All-City team honoree. She finished the season ranked first on her team in digs and service aces and led the team to the conference championship. A versatile athlete, Higgins is also an exceptional point guard and was awarded NJB All-Net Team and San Clemente Shock 2001-2005. Also a star in the classroom, Higgins is in the top 10 percent of her class.
"Clare brings a special talent to our program in that she is an outstanding competitor," the coach said. "She brings confidence, leadership and a drive to excel. She has a talent of elevating the level of play around her. She is always pushing to excel and being a consistent performer in which her teammates can rely. We are thrilled to have Clare's talents here at Boston College."
Mollie Kolosky is a 6'2" middle hitter out of Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Wheaton, Ill. She also played on an 18-1 Sports Performance club team coached by Joe Jablonsky. Molly helped her high school team win the DuPage Valley Conference for the first time in 10 years. She was All-DVC, and named best blocker at the Mizuno Cup. Her club team, SPVB 18-Elite finished out the perfect season (83-0, with a 120 match winning streak since April 2007) at the 2008 JVDA Championships, winning the JVDA 18-Open Championship Gold medal.
"We are thrilled to have Mollie join our program," Leonard said. "She brings much success, experience and a level of knowledge that will help us tremendously. Our staff is looking forward to Mollie's leadership skills and development here at Boston College."
Jordan Meredith, is a 6'0" outside hitter out of Kamehameha High School in Honolulu, HI and a member of the Jammers Club coached by Debby Yee. Jordan was named a PrepVolleyball Junior Top-40 player, and won a state championship. Additionally, Meredith was on the All-Tournament Team for the 2008 USAV High Performance Junior Women International Division Championship. She earned a gold medal as a member of the USAV Youth National Team in 2006 at the NORCECA championships. She has also been a member of the USA Volleyball High Performance Development A2 camp and team.
"Jordan is an exceptional athlete whom we are very excited to have here at the Heights," Leonard said. "She is a fierce competitor and brings a wealth of skills to our program. We are very excited about her confidence, energy, and drive. She has all around skills which contribute to her complete game."
Marilyn Sullivan, is a 5'9" outside hitter/defensive specialist out of Encinitas, CA. She played at Francis Parker High School and Coast VBC, coached by Karolyn Kirby. During her career, Marilyn was a team captain, winning a state championship, as well as a San Diego section championship. Marilyn was also a member of the National Honor Society.
"We are extremely happy to have Marilyn join the program," Leonard said. "Her energy, enthusiasm, dedication and commitment are contagious. Her versatility will make an impact right away. She is a very determined, exciting young player for us, and we look forward to her emerging into the collegiate game."
The Eagles finished the 2007 season with a 14-18 overall record and were tied for eighth in the ACC standings with a mark of 8-14. BC will open its 2008 season against West Virginia in the Colgate Classic in Hamilton, N.Y. The team's first home game is against Harvard on Sept. 17.
