Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College junior Gina DiMartino is one of 47 players placed on a watch list for the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy. DiMartino was named to the list in 2007. This is the third consecutive season a Boston College women's soccer player was named to the list as defender Laura Georges made the watch list and semifinal list in 2006.
DiMartino is one of eight ACC players named to the list. UNC has three players on the list, while Florida State has two. Also named to the list this season is DiMartino's older sister, Christina, who is a senior forward at UCLA.
The Hermann Trophy is regarded as the country's most prestigious individual honor for women's collegiate soccer players. The list, announced by the Missouri Athletic Club, was compiled by a panel of coaches from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
A list of 15 semifinalists will be selected by a coaches committee in November, with three finalists announced in early December. The final three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Jan. 9, 2009, where the winner will be announced.
Boston College opens the 2008 season on Saturday, August 23 at Boston University (7 p.m.). The home opener for the Eagles will be on Friday, Sept. 5 when BC hosts Brown University at 5 p.m.
