ACC Releases Pre-Season Volleyball Coaches' Poll

The 2008 Boston College volleyball team was picked to finish 11th in the Atlantic Coast Conference pre-season coaches' poll, the league announced on Tuesday.
Last season, the Eagles finished 8-14 in ACC action. The team finished 14-18 overall. Head coach Andrea Leonard returns six letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team. She welcomes six newcomers in 2008.
Clemson received 11 first-place votes and topped the pre-season poll with 143 points. The Tigers finished last season atop the ACC with a 21-1 conference record. Georgia Tech placed second in the pre-season poll with 130 points and one first-place vote.
Following the Yellow Jackets were Duke and North Carolina, who placed third and fourth with 119 and 102 points, respectively. The Blue Devils finished the 2007 season in second place with a conference record of 19-3.
Florida State and Virginia tied for fifth in the poll with 84 points each.
Rounding out the pre-season poll (in order) were: Maryland, Virginia Tech, Miami, Wake Forest, BC, and NC State.
The Eagles open their season on Aug. 29 against West Virginia in the Colgate Classic. BC's first ACC match is Sept. 23 at Maryland.
