Boston College senior Tim Filangieri has been named assistant captain of the 2008-09 Boston College hockey team, according to head coach Jerry York.
Filangieri, who fills the vacancy left by Nathan Gerbe's departure, joins assistant captain Benn Ferriero and captain Brock Bradford as leaders of the 2008-09 team.
"I feel honored and extremely grateful for this opportunity to serve as the assistant captain," Filangieri said. "There has been a lot of excitement within the team in the weight room this summer. We are all looking forward to this upcoming season."
A defenseman, Filangieri has played in 122 career games. He has registered 12 points -- three goals and nine assists.
The Islip Terrace, N.Y., resident played in 43 games during last winter's national-championship season. He registered six points -- one goal and five assists -- and a plus/minus rating of +21. Filangieri's plus/minus rating ranked second among all BC defensemen.
Boston College hockey will open its season at home against Wisconsin on Oct. 10, 2008.
