Sylvia Crawley Returns to WNBA

Chestnut Hill, Ma - Boston College head women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley held a devotional & prayer service prior to Tuesday nights WNBA game between Connecticut Sun and Houston Comets in Uncasville, Connecticut. Crawley, a licensed minister and motivational speaker, has been involved with the WNBA's chapel since she her retirement from San Antonio Silver Stars.
Last night Crawley met with both teams prior to the tip-off. After reading a Bible verse and short devotion, Crawley listened to prayer request from the players of both teams. The service ended with both teams, hand-in-hand, praying together.
"It was funny watching the game because it was very intense and competitive! What the fans didn't know was that one hour before the game, I led a prayer where players from both teams were holding hands and praying for one another. I think that is pretty cool which is why I am affiliated with the WNBA Chaplains," says Crawley as she smiles.
The Boston College coach has been active in the WNBA Chapel program, last July she was invited to speak at the WNBA Breakfast Chapel before the All-Star Game in Washington, DC.
"I feel honored to have opportunities such as this. I understand the challenges they face in July, so I know exactly what to say to encourage and inspire them," says Crawley.
Crawley has been asked to tour the league speaking prior to games for individual WNBA teams. Due to her commitment at Boston College, Crawley's availability has been limited but will continue to be a part of the program.
A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Crawley played in the WNBA for five years before becoming a college coach. She began her pro career overseas and joined the WNBA and the Portland Fire in 2000. After playing with Portland until 2002, she joined the San Antonio Silver Stars in the 2003-04 season.
