Hockey Announces 2008-09 Captains

Forward Brock Bradford will serve as captain of the 2008-09 Boston College hockey team and forwards Benn Ferriero and Nathan Gerbe will serve as assistant captains, according to an announcement made by Eagles' head coach Jerry York.
All three players are now completing their junior years and will lead the team as seniors.
Bradford played in five games in his junior season. He missed 17 straight games after suffering a broken left humerus in his left arm in the team's season-opening game against Michigan on Oct. 12. The Burnaby, British Columbia, resident returned and played in four straight games (1/9-1/19) before sustaining a break in the same bone against Boston University. He registered five points - three goals and two assists - during this four-game span.
Bradford has played in 89 career games and has totaled 68 points - 28 goals and 40 assists. Bradford shared the program's James E. Tiernan Award with Gerbe as the program's Most Improved Players following their sophomore campaigns in 2006-07.
Ferriero finished the 2007-08 national championship season as a right wing on the team's second forward line, while Gerbe played left wing on the Eagles' top forward line. Ferriero concluded the season with 42 points - 17 goals and 25 assists. He played in all 44 games and has played in all 128 games since his arrival at the Heights in the fall of 2005. He has registered 113 points on 56 goals and 57 assists.
Gerbe captured the NCAA Division I scoring title in 2007-08 with 68 points - 35 goals and 33 assists - in 43 games. He recently registered eight points - five goals and three assists - in leading Boston College to recent Frozen Four victories over North Dakota and Notre Dame. He earned NCAA Frozen Four Most Valuable Player recognition.
Boston College finished its 2007-08 season with a 25-11-8 record. The Eagles advanced to their eighth Frozen Four in 11 years and defeated Notre Dame in the national championship game to capture the program's third NCAA title.

Gerbe Earns National College Hockey Player of the Month Honors ...
Junior left wing Nathan Gerbe, who totaled 22 points - 12 goals and 10 assists - during a nine-game winning streak that culminated with a 4-1 win over Notre Dame in the national championship game, has earned Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Player of the Month honors for the March/April period.
Gerbe scored seven goals in the NCAA Tournament to tied three other players (the last being BU's Tom Amonte in 1990) for the most goals in a single tournament. Gerbe became the first player since Dave Silk - also of BU - to score five goals in a Frozen Four since 1977.
Muse Captures National Rookie of the Month Recognition ...
Freshman goalie John Muse, who backstopped the Eagles to a 9-1-1 record in 11 games in the March/April period, is the HCA Rookie of the Month.
Muse made 30 (or more) saves in eight games, including a career-high 45 saves in the team's triple-overtime victory over New Hampshire in the semifinals of the Hockey East Tournament.
The East Falmouth, Mass., resident registered a 1.58 goals against average and a .949 save percentage in 721:44. He earned Frozen Four All-Tournament Team recognition after allowing just one goal in each of two victories - over North Dakota and Notre Dame.
Muse played every minute of all 44 games for the Eagles this season. He led the nation in saves (1,171) and minutes played (2725:06). He is the first freshman goalie to lead his team to a national championship since Denver's Peter Mannino in 2005.

Boston College seniors Dan Bertram and Mike Brennan have both agreed to terms with the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks organization.
Bertram, who served as one of two alternate captains (with Matt Greene) on the 2007-08 national championship team, was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round (54th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 161 career games and tallied 105 points - 37 goals and 68 assists.
Brennan signed with the organization as an unrestricted free agent. He played in all 168 games over the previous four seasons, finishing second to Rob Scuderi (169) on the school's all-time games played list. The Smithtown, N.Y., resident, served as alternate captain a junior and captain of the Eagles' 2007-08 national championship team.
