Gerbe, Greene Earn Awards At New England Hockey Writers' Banquet

SAUGUS, Mass. -- Boston College junior Nathan Gerbe earned the Herb Gallagher Award as New England's Top Forward and senior Matt Greene garnered the Frank Jones Award as the region's Top Defensive Forward at the 2008 New England Hockey Writers' Banquet at Prince Restaurant Wednesday night.
Gerbe also collected All-New England first-team honors.
The Oxford, Mich., resident recently registered eight points -- five goals and three assists -- in leading Boston College recent Frozen Four victories over North Dakota and Notre Dame and the 2008 national title. He earned NCAA Frozen Four Most Valuable Player laurels.
Gerbe registered 68 points -- 35 goals and 33 assists -- in 43 games this season to capture the NCAA Division I scoring title.
Greene, a Plymouth, Mass., resident earned top defensive forward accolades from the New England Hockey Writers after having also received the Hockey East Association's top defensive forward in mid-March.
Greene, who served as alternate captain along with classmate Dan Bertram on the 2007-08 national championship team, totaled 12 points - a career-high eight goals and four assists - in 44 games. He registered plus/minus rating of +10.
