Softball Falls In Doubleheader Against No. 19 Virginia Tech

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (20-23, 2-9 ACC) came close but fell short in two games against 19th-ranked Virginia Tech (31-11, 12-2 ACC), falling by scores of 3-1 and 7-2 at Commander Shea Field Saturday.
Junior Renee Ramos continued to spark BC's offensive unit, going 2-for-6 at the plate on the day. She belted her sixth homerun this season in game two and now has a team-high 42 hits and 27 RBIs on the year.
Virginia Tech-3, BC-1-- Freshman Allison Gage (9-13) earned her 21st start of the season and threw for her 11th complete game in the loss. She faced 33 batters in the game and allowed one earned run on 11 hits. Senior Angela Tincher (22-5) got the start for the Hokies and the win.
Both teams went scoreless through the first two innings. The Hokies then scored a run in the top of the third inning on a double by shortstop Misty Hall. Virginia Tech put two more runs across on three hits in the top of the fifth inning, giving them the 3-0 advantage.
The Eagles began to rally back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sophomore Taylor Peyton led off with a single against pitcher Heather Lowry. Peyton then reached second on an error by Virginia Tech's first baseman. Ramos reached next on a fielder's choice. In the third at-bat of the inning, freshman Irene Delagrammaticas singled, scoring Peyton for her 12th RBI this season. Tincher came back in the game to pitch, striking out the next three batters and keeping the final score to 3-1.
Virginia Tech 7, BC 2-- The Hokies rallied early to begin the second game, getting a run across in the top of the first inning off pitcher Taylor Peyton (11-9). Peyton pitched the full seven innings for the Eagles, her 10th complete game this season. On the day she faced 36 batters, allowing four earned runs on ten hits and striking out two.
BC battled back in the bottom half of the first inning. With one out, Taylor Peyton reached base on a fielder's choice. Ramos then homered to left field, scoring Peyton and giving BC the 2-1 edge. The Hokies rallied for three more runs in the top of the second inning and then added two more in the top of the fourth. One more run came across in the top of the sixth inning, tallying the final score at 7-2. Tincher registered her second win of the day, coming in to the game in the third inning.
Due to possible rain conditions, tomorrow's series finale of the three-game set against Virginia Tech has been moved to the start time of 11 a.m. Originally slated for 1 p.m., the game will take place at Commander Shea Field two hours earlier.
