Women's Basketball Coach Inglese Resigns

Cathy Inglese has resigned her position as the head women's basketball coach at Boston College after 15 seasons with the Eagles, Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo has announced.
"I am forever grateful for the rich and rewarding opportunity that Boston College has afforded me for the past 15 years to serve as its head women's basketball coach," Inglese said. "I have learned and grown so much. I thank my staff, Father Leahy, Athletics Director Gene DeFilippo, the rest of the administration and my colleagues, as well as all those associated with the program, for their dedication, guidance and assistance. I especially thank the players, both past and present, for their dedication and committed efforts. I certainly believe that our collective efforts and experiences have created a hallmark of excellence for future teams and for future success."
Inglese recently completed the 2007-08 season with a 21-12 record and a fifth-place finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Overall, Inglese leaves a legacy of performance that includes eight 20-win seasons and seven NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 10 years and three NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances in the last six years. She has accumulated the most wins ever in Boston College women's basketball history with a record of 273 wins to 179 losses. A veteran of coaching NCAA women's basketball, Inglese's career record is 393-253 over 22 years.
"We are very thankful to Cathy Inglese for her 15 years of loyal service and dedication to Boston College," DeFilippo says. "Her teams have had some great success, and she leaves our program in much better shape than when she arrived. She recruited some outstanding young women to Boston College and her teams always performed with class, integrity and sportsmanship. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors."
DeFilippo has named assistant Erik Johnson interim head coach and will begin a national search for a replacement for Inglese.
