Storrs, Conn. - Boston College women's hockey players Kelli Stack and Maggie Taverna were named Second-Team Hockey East All-Stars on Friday night. Stack, a sophomore forward, led the team in points and goals and Taverna, a junior defenseman led the defensive unit in scoring. Senior forward Deborah Spillane and sophomore goalie Molly Schaus earned honorable mention nods.
Stack, last year's league Player and Rookie of the Year, tallied 38 points on 22 goals and 16 assists. She ranked 28th in the nation for her 1.12 points-per-game average and tied for the 12th spot with 0.65 goals-per-game. She was the seventh-highest scorer in the league and her 30 conference points tied two others for the number three spot. She scored 18 goals in league matchups, second to only New Hampshire's Jenn Wakefield.
The Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, native recorded six power-play goals and 11 power-play points to tie for third and seventh, respectively. She nailed two shorthanded scores and recorded gamewinners in the last four Eagles' victories.
Taverna, a three-time Hockey East All-Star, nailed down 12 points on two goals and 10 assists in the 2007-08 season. She tied for 12th on both Hockey East's overall defenseman scoring and conference defenseman scoring (2-5--7). The blueliner from Howell, N.J., played in her 100th game as an Eagle on Feb. 12 and has racked up 49 points in her career. She was the second runner-up in the three stars competition as well.
Spillane, a two-time captain and All-Star from Franklin, Mass., was BC's second-leading scorer with 33 points. Her 22 assists led the team and tied for fourth in the league. She ranked ninth in scoring and tied for the eighth spot with 22 league points. Her 15 assists in league matchups ranked fourth with Connecticut's Dominique Thibault. She was also the runner-up for the Sportsmanship Award after only being whistled three times for the entire season. She won the award as a junior.
Schaus, who held the Eagles' 14-13-7 record, made 920 saves, a new BC single-season record. Her 2.19 goals-against average was the 15th-lowest in the country and her .925 save percentage earned the number nine spot. The Natick, Mass., native ranked third in the league for both these categories and second in saves.
