Schaus, Stack Named to U.S. Women's National Team

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Sophomores Kelli Stack and Molly Schaus were named to the 2008 U.S. Women's National Team Roster, according to USA Hockey's announcement on Friday. The team will compete in the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Championship from April 4 to April 12 in Harbin, China.
In February, Stack and Schaus were two of the 27 players named to the preliminary roster and invited to a tryout and training camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., held from March 24 to March 31. Schaus was one of two goalies to make the team and Stack fills one of the 11 forward spots. They are both two of the youngest players to make the squad.
The classmates have both garnered some national playing time. Stack played in the Four Nations Cup on the Under-22 team and Schaus also competed at the U-22 level for the U.S. team. Both players were invited to USA Hockey's Annual Women's Holiday Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., held from Dec. 26, 2007 to Jan. 1, 2008. They were also two of six BC representatives at the 2007 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., and were named to the Under-22 Select Team. Schaus recorded the lowest goals-against average among goalie who played at least 100 minutes (1.20) and racked up 37 saves during the festival.
Stack was the Eagles' scoring leader for the past two seasons, racking up 38 points in the 2007-08 season and 54 points in 2006-07. In her two years at the Heights, she has earned Player of the Week accolades three times, Player of the Month twice and Rookie of the Week four times. She was named to a Hockey East All-Star team both years and was a unanimous All-Rookie selection her first season. As a freshman, she was named Hockey East Player and Rookie of the Year.
Stack currently ranks fifth in the school's history with 92 career points and holds the eighth spot with 53 career assists. She topped the BC record books with 37 single-season assists in her freshman campaign.
Schaus, the Eagles' number one netminder, has compiled a 34-23-9 in her two years at BC. In 2006-07, she helped lead the Eagles to the best finish in school history (24-10-2). She earned Player of Week twice, Rookie of the Week once, Defensive Player of the Week six times and Player or Goalie of the Month three times. She was named to the Hockey East All-Star second team as a freshman and earned honorable mention this past season. She also earned an unanimous selection to the league's All-Rookie team.
Schaus currently holds the lowest goals-against average in BC history with a career average of 2.05 and she is third on the career saves list with 1,786 stops. Schaus had a 73-save effort in the 2007 Beanpot triple overtime win against Harvard, which set the NCAA single-game saves record.
The two other Hockey East players named to the roster were New Hampshire's Kacey Bellamy and Sam Faber.
