Softball Wins Seventh And Eighth Straight Games

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team (18-15, 1-2 ACC) won its seventh and eighth consecutive games, beating the Holy Cross Crusaders (2-13, 0-0 Patriot) by scores of 8-4 and 4-3 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Dani Weir broke out offensively for the Eagles, picking up three RBIs on five hits in the two-game series. She now has 22 hits on the season and is second on the team with 14 RBIs.
BC-8, Holy Cross-4-- Sophomore Taylor Peyton (10-5) started her 13th game of the season and picked up her eighth complete game in the day's first win. She faced 30 batters, allowed four runs on six hits and struck out seven.
The Crusaders jumped ahead early in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs on two singles. BC went on to take the lead in the bottom of the third inning, putting four runs on the board. With the bases loaded and one out, sophomore catcher Amy Tunstall single for the first run, her 10th RBI of the season. Weir then doubled for two RBIs, scoring junior Renee Ramos and Peyton. Freshman Irene Delagrammaticas grounded out to the shortstop, allowing pinch runner Alison Kooistra to score the fourth run.
Two more runs were scored in the bottom of fourth. Senior Carley McNary and Peyton scored in the inning. Ramos and freshman Gemma Ypparila tallied the RBIs.
BC struck twice again in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman Allie Thunstrom and then again on an error by the Holy Cross catcher. Weir scored the second run, giving BC the 8-2 lead.
Holy Cross tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two more runs. BC finished its first game by the score of 8-4. The team tallied 12 hits.
BC-4, Holy Cross-3-- Both teams scored two runs in the second inning. For the Eagles, Weir knocked out a homerun and freshman Nicole Troncoso singled for her first collegiate RBI.
Holy Cross tacked on a run in the top of third off a single. BC then was able to rally back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the final 4-3 lead. Ramos hit into an error by the shortstop that allowed Troncoso and Thunstrom to score.
Junior Savana Lloyd started the second game, but freshman Allison Gage (8-9) came in to pitch the final four innings, earning the win. She allowed no hits and walked one after facing 15 batters.
Boston College will play in its second ACC series this weekend when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to play Florida State. The three game match-up will span over Saturday and Sunday, with the first game slated to begin at noon on Saturday, March 29.
