Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Senior Tiana Riel was named a 2008 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Division I Indoor Track and Field All-American, announced Monday.
Riel, who competed in the pentathlon at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, earned the award for her 11th-place finish. The 4,017 points she tallied in each of the five events was a personal best and second on BC's top performance list. This was her first trip to the indoor NCAAs and her first All-American honor.
"I feel honored to be named an All-American by the Coaches Association," Riel said. "I had a great time at the NCAA meet and was very happy with my performance. Coming away with an All-American honor makes it that much better."
There were 173 All-American performances at the championships. Seventy-two Division I women's programs were represented on the overall list, eight of them from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
