Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's basketball team is headed to the WNIT Tournament for the first time in the history of the program. The Eagles, who placed tied for fifth in the ACC, will play the winner of Thursday's first-round game between Dartmouth/Vermont. The second round game will be played Monday, March 24 at Conte Forum (7 p.m.).
It is the first post-season play for the young Eagles since the 2006-07 season. The Eagles have made a post-season tournament seven of the last nine seasons. BC advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and now 2008 with the WNIT berth. Boston College has only two players remaining on the roster who have experience in the last NCAA Tournament run in 2006 - juniors Brittanny Johnson and Corey Rusin.
If Vermont wins the game, it will be the sixth meeting between the two teams, but the first time the two teams have met in a post-season tournament game. Boston College (20-11) and Vermont (23-8) did not play this season. Last year the Eagles lost to the Catamounts, 56-48, at the URI Invitational.
If Dartmouth wins, it will be the first time the two teams played since the 2000 season. BC leads the series, 6-0. The last time the two teams played BC defeated Dartmouth, 84-56, at Conte Forum on Dec. 12, 2000.
