Women's Indoor Track Takes Fourth At ECAC Championship

March 10, 2008 Boston, Mass. - The Boston College women's indoor track team placed fourth overall out of a 48-team field at the ECAC Championship held March 8 and 9.
Both sophomore Caitlin Bailey (800) and senior Tiana Riel (pentathlon) recorded NCAA qualifying performances in their respective events Saturday. On Sunday, the women's distance medley squad followed suit, clocking their fastest time of the season. They placed third in a time of 11:13.48, topping their previous NCAA provisional time of 11:20.54.
BC registered a total of seven top-ten finishes at the championship. The other top performers were junior Nichole Lister, who took fourth in the 3000 (9:35.77), sophomores Brielle Chabot in the 5000 (seventh place, 17:10.06) and Samantha Gawrych in the 1000 (second place, 2:49.21). Freshman Siobhan Breagy recorded her fastest time this season in the 800 (2:13.39), placing seventh. Senior Mary Heitkamp also clocked her fastest one-mile (4:56.77) of the season, taking seventh. Senior Carolyn Rayburn, participating in her last indoor meet as an Eagle, finished with a vault of 12' 07.50". This mark is a personal best for Rayburn and sets a new BC school-record. She previously held the school record with a 12' 2.00" vault in 2006.
The Connecticut women took home the ECAC Championship title, earning 60.50 points. Seton Hall placed second (49), Syracuse took third (47) and George Mason placed fifth (36).
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship begins Friday, March 14 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
