Women's Indoor Track Takes Sixth At ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. - After senior Kasey Hill earned BC's first individual championship title in the pentathlon on Thursday, the rest of the Boston College women's indoor track team took home their best finish, placing sixth overall at the 2008 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.
The women totaled 48 points over the course of the weekend. Highlighting the championship were performances by Hill and senior Tiana Riel, who placed first and second in the pentathlon, collecting 18 points. Sophomore Caitlin Bailey placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:13.56 (six points). Fellow sophomore Samantha Gawrych (2:15.08) and freshman Caroline King also (2:18.08) took sixth and seventh respectively in the event.
Other women collecting points for the Eagles were junior Nichole Lister in the 3000 (9:33.99), earning a third place finish and a provisional qualifying time for the NCAAs. In the one mile, King (4:49.37) and sophomores Jessica Driscoll (4:55.09) and Gretchen Andrus (5:01.46) totaled eight points. Rounding out the Eagles scoring performances were the 4x400 relay and the distance medley squads. The 4x400 took eighth place (one point) and the distance medley placed third (six points) in a time of 3:49.73 and 11:37.20, respectively.
The Virginia Tech women were the 2008 ACC Indoor Track Champions with 138 points. Florida State and North Carolina tied for second place with 88.5 points. Wrapping up the top five were Miami (75 points) and Virginia (57 points).

The BC women will compete against New England's best track athletes in the ECAC Championship on March 8 and 9 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
