Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College head lacrosse coach Bowen Holden named Courtney Leonard to the 2008 coaching staff. She joins Holden and assistant coach Joanne Connelly. While this will be Leonard's first time coaching collegiate lacrosse, she has ACC playing and high school coaching experience to guide her.
Leonard is a 2003 Virginia graduate where she played lacrosse under head coach Julie Myers, the IWLCA 2004 Coach of the Year. As a three-year starter, she gained valuable experience, helping her team to three NCAA Tournaments. In 2003, the Cavaliers played in the ACC championship, where Leonard was selected to the All-Tournament team. They then went on to compete in the NCAA finals.
Leonard's coaching experience includes guiding the Mansfield (MA) High School Girls' lacrosse team for the past four years. In her first season, the team's success came in the form of the school's first tournament win. In 2007, the Hornets had their best season ever, finishing 14-5-1 and garnering the fourth seed in the state tournament. Leonard also served as the director of the Mansfield Youth Lacrosse Camp for the past three years.
The Eagles open their season at home against Maryland on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. The team will compete on the lacrosse field at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass.
