
Women's Hockey Drops Eighth Conference Game

Orono, Maine - Boston College lost its 12th game of the season when its fell to Maine, 2-1, on Saturday night. The Eagles dropped to 11-12-6, 6-8-2 in Hockey East. Meanwhile, the Black Bears improved to 4-22-3, 3-10-2 in the conference. Junior Meghan Fardelmann scored the only BC goal in the first period. The Eagles could not match the two consecutive goals by Maine in the second stanza.
The Eagles got on the board quickly when Fardelmann netted her 10th goal of the season at the 2:32 mark in the first period. Sophomore Tracy Johnson recorded her first point of the season on the assist. Senior captain Deborah Spillane was also credited with her 18th assist.
BC outshot Maine, 20-3, in the period. The Eagles killed both Black Bears' power-play opportunities but could not score on one of their three chances in the period.
The Black Bears tied it up in the 13th minute of the second stanza. Jennie Gallo scored her sixth goal of the season off Vanessa Vani's pass.
Maine took the lead with less than two minutes to go in the period on a power-play goal by Amy Stech. Gallo and Vani picked up the assists on the go-ahead score.
Neither team netted a goal in the final frame and the Black Bears held onto their lead for the 2-1 win. BC outshot Maine, 40-17, and sophomore goalie Molly Schaus recorded 15 saves. Her counterpart, Genevieve Turgeon registered 39 saves. The Eagles were 0-6 on power plays, while the Black Bears were 1-7.
The Eagles take on the Black Bears again on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
