Women's Basketball Prepares for Hurricanes

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College (16-5) is currenlty 4-2 in the ACC and will host a very important ACC game when they welcome Miami to Conte Forum on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. The Eagles are looking to capture their fifth ACC victory. Miami (8-13, 1-5 ACC) is looking to rebound off a tough loss to no. 5 Maryland.
BC Last Time Out
On Jan. 28, Boston College defeated Clemson, 68-63, as junior Brittanny Johnson had six of her 11 points in the final two minutes of action. Johnson went 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the final two minutes of the game. Freshman Carolyn Swords, who also hit two free throws in the final seconds of the game, added 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win. It was Swords fifth double-double of the season and second in ACC competition.
Making Her Point
Freshman point guard Jaclyn Thoman has started the last six games for the Eagles. While BC has gone 4-2 in that stretch, Thoman has averaged 30 minutes, 4.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists. The Colorado native is eighth in the ACC in assists and first among all conference freshmen in this category (3.70 avg.).
BC vs. Miami
Boston College and Miami have played 27 times. BC has won 10 games. Since joining the ACC, the two teams have played four times and have split the series, 2-2. The series began in 1992 and Miami won the first five meetings. The first time BC defeated Miami was on Jan. 25, 1994. Then first-year coach Cathy Inglese led her team to an 80-71 victory. Holly Porter had 21 points in the victory.
Last season, Boston College lost to Miami, 83-68, in Florida. Kathrin Ress had 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists but it was not enough as Charmaine Clark and Renee Taylor combined for 46 points in the Hurricanes victory. In the second game of the series, BC led 36-29 at the half and never looked back. Senior Kathrin Ress had 21 points and 16 rebounds as the Eagles won, 78-65, at Conte Forum. The key to the game was the seven three-pointers made by guard Kindyll Dorsey, who finished with 23 points.
