Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the University of Connecticut on Friday night.
The loss drops the Eagles to 9-4-3 on the season 6-3-1 in Hockey East. BC takes the season series against the Huskies two games to one.
Both teams played an open-ice attacking style in the first period trading equal time in the offensive zone. The Huskies hit the scoreboard first netting a powerplay goal at 8:55 to give them a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal Connecticut has scored against BC on their home ice this season, having been held scoreless in the team's last meeting.
Becky Zavisza netted BC's first and only goal of the game to tie it at 14:55. Zavisza stole the puck from the Huskies defender and fired a wrister that beat Connecticut goaltender Brittany Wilson top shelf to even the score at one apiece.
The Huskies netted the tie-breaker 9 minutes into the third period when a scrum in front of the BC net ended with Connecticut's Michelle Binning collecting a loose puck just out of Molly Schaus's reach and tipping it in for a 2-1 Connecticut lead.
The Eagles pulled Schaus for the extra skater, but couldn't duplicate the Princeton outcome from the previous Friday, when BC tied the game with the extra attacker.
Kelli Stack was held scoreless for the first time this season in the loss.
The Eagles were out shot 29-24 with Schaus stopping 27 shots.
BC will close out the month of December next Wednesday December 10 with a 5 p.m. tilt against Boston University.
