The Boston College women's basketball team is on the final leg of a three-game road trip. The Eagles will play at Minnesota on Thursday, Dec. 4 in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
Boston College began the three-game trip with two games at the Caribbean Challenge. The Eagles came away with a win over No. 22 TCU and James Madison. The Eagles performance helped the team receive votes in the AP Poll this week. It is the first time BC has been mentioned in a poll since the 2006-07 season, when the team received votes on Dec. 26 by ESPN/USA Today.
Eagles guard Mickel Picco averaged 22.5 points in two games and hit 16-of-19 from the foul line in two games. For her efforts, Picco was named the ACC Player of the Week.
BC and Minnesota have played once and it was at the Mideast Regional of the NCAA Tournament in 2004. Minnesota defeated BC, 76-63, in that game which was in Round of 16 and played in Norfolk Virginia. BC was led by Jess Deveny with 18 points and Claire Droesch added 17 and eight rebounds.
Minnesota Head Coach Pam Borton was an assistant coach at Boston College from the 1997-08 season to the 2001-02. BC has played Big 10 teams 25 times in the programs history. The Eagles are 8-17 overall. In the last six seasons BC is 4-5 vs. Big 10 teams, with two victories over Ohio State and three overtime losses.
