The Boston College women's basketball team captured an 85-51 victory over Dartmouth in the first game in the Blue Sky Classic on Monday night.
Boston College improves to 9-3 and will play Fairfield (6-5) on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. Dartmouth is now 2-8 and will play Wagner at 5 p.m.
The Eagles were led by Stefanie Murphy with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Mickel Picco added 14 points and Ayla Brown had 10 points and five assists. Dartmouth was led by Koren Schram with 14 points.
BC opened the second half with a 9-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer from senior Brittanny Johnson (eight points, two steals) at 14:49. A fast break layup by Brown gave BC a 15 point eight minutes into the half. At 10:37, Picco hit a three-pointer from the wing off an inbounds play and BC was up, 59-40. The lead grew as Picco would hit two more three's and Stefanie Murphy had three key baskets in the paint to give BC a 69-45 lead with 5:49 t o play.
BC shot 54 percent in the game and 55 percent for the game. The Eagles hit a season high 10 three-pointers and won the battle of the boards, 37-29.
Boston College held a 36-30 halftime lead as Murphy had nine points and Brown added six. The Eagles led 29-20 after Johnson stole the ball and went the distance for a lay-up and a foul. After Johnson's three-point play, Dartmouth chipped away at the lead off three straight foul shots and a jumper by Darcy Rose.
Game Notes:
Junior Mickel Picco has now hit a three-pointer in 20 straight games; dating back to last season ...BC shot 55 percent from the three-point line. The 10 three's are the most made in a game for BC since March 7, 2008 when BC hit 11 vs. Maryland ... The Eagles also had 22 assists on 33 field goals ... Freshman Jasmine Gill had six points and six rebounds while sophomore LaShaunda Pratt shot 2-for-3 from the three-point arc for six points in seven minutes .... BC had 34 points in the paint and 31 off the bench.
