
Women's Basketball Improves to 7-2

The Boston College women's basketball team (7-2) had three players in double figures as the Eagles defeated the Florida International Panthers (1-7), 93-65, in its final home game of the year on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.
Junior guard Mickel Picco scored 16 points in the first half and finished with a team-high 23 points, including three three-point shots for the Eagles. Sophomore Carolyn Swords added 19 points and a team-high 11 rebounds in her second consecutive double-double game, giving her four on the season and nine in her career. Junior Ayla Brown was the third BC player in double-figures with 10 points, while senior Brittanny Johnson had nine points and seven assists. FIU junior guard Monika Bosilj led the Panthers with 30 points.
Swords started the game hitting 7-for-8 from the floor and took down six boards, helping BC to a 50-33 lead at halftime. The Eagles jumped to a 10 point advantage over the Panthers with 10:45 in the first half. The lead grew to 20 points at the 1:25 mark. FIU combined to shoot 13-34 at the half and were led by Bosilj who contributed 19 points on a 7-for-11 shooting effort.
BC climbed to a 22 point lead at 13:34 in the game on a layup by freshman Jasmine Gil. With 2:21 left, the Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 29 points after Picco made a lay-up and hit a free throw.
The Eagles out-rebounded FIU 48-26 and scored 44 points in the paint. The Eagles also held their opponent to a 39 field goal percentage and scored 18 of their points off of fast breaks.
Next time out the Eagles will be in Jamaica, NY, playing in the St. John's Tournament. They take on Houston at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 20. After the Christmas Holiday, the Eagles will head North to play in the Dartmouth Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30.

This is the fifth game on the season which BC team has defeated an opponent by over 10 points...Picco extended her three-point streak to 16 games in which she hit a three.
