GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior strong safety Paul Anderson and junior linebacker Mark Herzlich have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week after leading the Boston College defense to a 17-0 shutout of Notre Dame on Saturday. Anderson was named the Defensive Back of the Week while Herzlich was tabbed Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week with Florida State's Neefy Moffett.
Anderon picked off a pair of Jimmy Clausen passes and returned one 76 yards for a touchdown for the first score of his career. His other interception came in BC's own end zone. The Staten Island, N.Y., product has five interceptions on the season which is the second most in the country. His .56 interception per game average ranks sixth.
Anderson is sixth on the team with 32 tackles and has three pass break-ups.
Herzlich led the BC defense with 11 tackles against the Irish and 10 of them were unassisted. He also had a career-high three pass break-ups. Herzlich was instrumental in Boston College's first shutout win over the Irish in series history. It was also the first time that Notre Dame has been held scoreless this season.
