The Boston College volleyball team battled North Carolina in three tough sets, but ultimately fell to the Tar Heels, 3-0, at Power Gym. The Eagles never trailed by more than eight points in the three sets they played, but were unable to convert their solid play into set victories.
With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 7-19 overall (1-12 ACC), while the Tar Heels improved to 14-9 (8-4 ACC).
Trailing 17-10 in the first set, the Eagles rallied for five of the next seven points, punctuated by a Tori Thompson kill, to cut the UNC lead to 19-15. The Tar Heels used a similar rally, winning six of the next eight points, to close out the set at 25-17.
BC trailed again in the second set, 13-6, before going on a 6-0 run, with a kill by Jordan Meredith and a service ace by Brittany Pierpont surrounding four UNC attack errors. The Eagles would eventually take a 17-16 lead and later, led 20-19, before the Tar Heels rallied again with five straight points. UNC would go on to win the set, 25-21.
In the third set, the Eagles never trailed by more than four points. Down 22-18, the Eagles scored two consecutive points after a timeout on a block by Melanie Cimino, and an attack error by the Tar Heels. But UNC would rally with kills in three of the next four points to close out the set, 25-22, and the match.
Leading the way for BC was Taylor Williams, who recorded 10 kills without any errors for a season high attack percentage of .526. Melanie Cimino recorded a career high seven blocks and Kristen Baader notched her fourth consecutive double-digit dig effort with 13 digs. Brittany Pierpont added 16 assists to lead the Eagles.
BC will next face Florida State at Power Gym on Nov. 7 at 8 pm.
