Boston College soccer returns to action tonight - Friday, Oct. 3 - when it hosts Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Duke at the Newton Campus Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Eagles enter this evening's match-up with an adjusted record of 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference contests. In the team's most recent game on Sept. 27, NC State defeated Boston College 2-0, however, NC State forfeited the win. For ACC seeding purposes, the game will be considered a "no-contest."
Boston College and Duke are meeting for the fourth time in series history. Duke leads the series, 2-1, but Boston College has the most recent victory as it defeated Duke, 4-2, in 2007. The Blue Devils are 1-0 as visitors to the Newton Campus Soccer Complex with a 3-0 victory over the Eagles in 2005.
Offensively, BC has scored eight goals in eight games. The Eagles are led by senior All-American Alejandro Bedoya, who has scored three times in five games. All three of Bedoya's goals came in a 4-1 home victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels two weeks ago. Freshman forward Edvin Worley has played in all seven games and has recorded four points - one goal and two assists - while senior Mike Konicoff and sophomore Mario Uribe have each registered one goal and one assist.
Senior Chris Brown has played all 740 minutes in the BC net. He owns a 0.97 goals against average and a .630 save percentage.
The Eagles have outshot their last two opponents, 34-15.
Duke heads into the ACC matchup with a 5-3-1 overall mark and 1-1-1 record against ACC opponents. The Blue Devils are coming off a 5-0 victory over Stony Brook on Sept. 30. Senior forward Mike Grella leads all scorers with 19 points - eight goals and three assists. Grella's 19 points are just seven shy of his total from last season. Defensively, the Blue Devils have allowed just two goals in the past six games and posted four shutouts during that time. Senior goaltender Brendan Fitzgerald sports a 0.81 goals against average and an .800 save percentage on the season.
