Freshman Annie Haeger won the NEISA Conference Singlehanded Championships this weekend in dominant fashion. Haeger scored just 42 points over the 14- race series, beating defending national champion Krysta Rohde from the Coast Guard Academy by over thirty points. At one point, Haeger won six races in a row to pull away from the field of 17. The Conference Championship victory qualifies Haeger for the Women's Singlehanded National Championship at Cornell in late October. For her efforts, Haeger was also named the NEISA Conference Sailor of the Week.
Senior Adam Roberts sailing with senior Parker Dwyer, senior Andrew Schneider, and senior Briana Provancha came up just short of qualifying for the Sloop National Championship. The Eagles finished third, one spot out of qualifying, in NEISA's Sloop Championship sailed in Colgate 26's. BC started the event with a 9th place finish in the first race. Despite scoring just 18 points over the next five races, the first race was too much to overcome in the six-race series.
In other coed competition, the Eagles finished 6th at the Hood Trophy at Tufts. With extremly light winds all weekend, the event was cut short after just three races in each division. The Eagles were led by junior Evan Cooke and sophomore crew Emily Migliaccio who finsihed 6th in B division. Junior Tyler Sinks and senior crew Lauren Gillooly struggled in their first two races, but managed a 5th in their third race to help the Eagles finish 6th overall.
Women's competition resumes this weekend at Boston University, while the coed team heads to the Coast Guard Academy.
Boston College's coed sailing team has been ranked in the country while the Women's sailing team is ranked No.2, according to an announcement made by Sailing College Rankings (www.collegesailing.org).
