
Women's Basketball Stuns NC State, 60-59

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Senior Rebecca Miles hit two free throws with 16 seconds to play giving Boston College a 60-59 victory over ACC foe NC State on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum in front of over 3,000 fans. The Eagles snapped a three game losing streak vs. NC State with the victory.
Boston College improved to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, while NC State is 12-4 overall and 0-1 in the ACC.
Boston College was led by freshman Stefanie Murphy with 21 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Mickel Picco and Miles added 11 points apiece. Junior Brittanny Johnson finished with eight points, five rebounds and tied her career-high for assists with seven.
NC State was led by Shayla Fields with 16 points, five assists and four steals, while Sharnise Beal and Khadijah Whittington had 13 points apiece.
The Eagles were down as many as nine points in the second half. At 9:33 the Eagles started their comeback as Johnson hit a lay-up to cut the NC State lead to six points. Miles hit a lay-up at 8:23 to cut the lead to five points but Fields responded with a jumper in the paint to keep the Wolfpack lead at seven points. The Eagles chipped away and finally cut the lead to two points on a lay-up by Murphy and a traditional three-point play by Miles with 6:30 to play.
In the final five minutes, NC State held the lead five times but the Eagles tied the game three times in that time span. With 37 seconds to play, Johnson hit another driving lay-up to give BC its first lead of the half, 58-56. After a missed three-pointer by Amber White, Miles was fouled while grabbing the defensive rebound. Miles hit both free throws to give BC a 60-56 lead with 16 seconds to play. NC State cut the lead to one point on a three-pointer by Sharnise Beal with seven seconds to play. After a missed foul shot by BC, Beal had a baseline jumper that fell short at the buzzer.
The first half was a battle as the teams exchanged leads 12 times along with seven ties. NC State was led by Fields in the first half as she notched 14 points and shot 7-for-8 from the foul line in the half. BC was led by Murphy, who scored 10 of her 12 points in the final six minutes of the half. NC State held a 32-31 lead at the half.

The Eagles out-rebounded the Wolfpack, 41-30. NC State is the 15th team the Eagles have beat on the boards this season ... Rebecca Miles had a career-high six rebounds and went 5-for-5 from the free throw line ... Mickel Picco hit two more three-pointers to give her 27 for the season ... Freshman Veronica Wilson saw her first ACC action in the second half. Wilson played four minutes and hit a jumper from the top of the key to cut the NC State lead to six points at 15:39 to play ... BC has won six consecutive games. It is the longest winning streak since the 2004-05 season when the Eagles won seven straight games.
