
Women's Basketball Escapes Clemson with 68-63 Victory

Clemson, SC - Boston College junior Brittanny Johnson scored six of her 11 points in the final two minutes of action to help the Eagles defeat Clemson, 68-63, at Littlejohn Coliseum Monday night. The guard hit a driving lay-up and went four of five from the foul line to catapult the Eagles to their fourth victory in the ACC.
Boston College (16-5 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) was led by freshman Carolyn Swords with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Johnson added five rebounds. Sophomore Mickel Picco contributed eight points, two assists and six rebounds, while Brown added eight points and eight rebounds.
Clemson was led by Morganne Campbell with 13 points and D'Lesha Lloyd and Sthefny Thomas with 11 points apiece.
The Tigers took a 44-41 lead with 13:12 to play in the game. Boston College chipped away at the Tigers lead. At 11:58, Boston College took a four point lead when Picco hit her second three-pointer of the game followed by a lay-up by senior Rebecca Miles (seven points, four assists).
At 2:12, Johnson hit a driving lay-up and hit the foul shot to give BC a 60-56 lead. Clemson cut the BC lead to two points, 60-58, on a jumper from Lloyd. Johnson was fouled with 54 seconds and she hit both freebies to give BC a 63-58 lead.
After a lay-up by Kirstyn Wright to cut the lead to three points, freshman Stefanie Murphy hit one foul shot to keep the Eagles up 64-60. Two foul shots by Swords with 18.3 seconds to play sealed the victory.
The Eagles led by two at the half behind 10 points from Swords and five from Brown and Johnson. The Eagles shot 44 percent from the field, while Clemson shot 40 percent. The Tigers were led by seven points from both Campbell and Thomas.
