Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College freshman Carolyn Swords was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference today. It is the second time the ACC has honored Swords with the Rookie of the Week award. She earned it on Nov. 12 for her play in the first week of the season.
Swords, a native of Sudbury, MA, had a solid week as the Eagles (14-4) went 1-1. Against No. 4 Maryland, Swords notched career-highs in points (28) and rebounds (13). Swords went 12-for-16 (75%) from the field and was 4-for-6 from the foul line. It was also her fourth double-double of the season.
In the second game of the week, Swords was in foul trouble most of the game. She finished with eight points and three rebounds but it was her defense that helped the Eagles. Swords forced a turnover when she pressured the ball on a pick and roll with 59 seconds to play. After the Eagles took the lead, 57-55, Swords would then tip an inbound pass to prevent Yale from getting a shot in the final seconds of the game.
Boston College will travel to Chapel Hill this week as the Eagles will battle North Carolina on Thursday, Jan. 17 (7 p.m.).
