Chestnut Hill, Mass.--No. 10 Boston College has a busy weekend ahead on the Newton Campus Field Turf. On Friday, the Eagles take on No. 15 ACC-opponent Duke at 7 p.m., followed by a game against Maine on Sunday at 3 p.m. where their four seniors will be honored.
The Eagles are 4-4 against the Blue Devils, 1-1 since joining the ACC. Last year's match-up ended in a 2-1 double-overtime victory for BC when junior forward Bob Dirks netted the gamewinner in the 93rd minute. Junior goaltender Julia Berkowitz stopped a season-high 15 shots in the contest. Senior forward Crystal Frates scored the Eagles' tying goal with 16:46 left in regulation.
BC has fared better against Maine, has it has an 8-1 record against the Black Bears. In 2006, Frates and Dirks also picked up the scores in the 2-0 win in Orono, Maine. Berkowitz recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
Sunday's game will honor the four seniors who will be leaving the Eagles at the end of the 2007 season. Alyssa Emrick, Crystal Frates, Caitlyn Young and captain Brenna Leahy will be recognized before the 3 p.m. start for their hard-work and dedication to the Boston College field hockey program.
The Eagles will play two more home games after this weekend before the ACC Tournament comes to Newton on Nov. 1, 2 and 4. BC plays six of its eight games on the road in October.
