Women's Ice Hockey Welcomes Incoming Class

Three new woman's ice hockey players will be among the students moving into Boston College Labor Day weekend. The 2011 class hopes to help build on last season's success of a Frozen Four trip.
Ashlan Lambert, a defender from Eden Prairie, Minn., helped lead her high school team to a 57-game win streak, spanning from 2005 to 2007, which included two state championships. She was named to the Associated Press's first team and honored as a Ms. Hockey Top 5 Finalist. She also earned All-Metro first-team and 2005-06 All-State Tournament Team honors.
Katelyn Kurth comes to the Heights from High Bridge, N.J. Also a defender, Kurth spent her playing days at North American Hockey Academy in Stowe, Vt. and Voorhees High School in New Jersey. At Vorhees, Kurth played for the Atlantic District Championship teams from 2002 to 2006. She also captained the New Jersey Colonials in the 2005 17/18 National Festival and was an assistant captain for the Princeton Tiger Lilies in 2006.
Rounding out the talented class is Amanda Rothschild, a Sherborn, Mass.goalie who attended Deerfield Academy for a year and Milton Academy for three years. At Deerfield, she finished the season with a .930 save percentage and received Deerfield's Ice Hockey Seventh Player Award. At Milton Academy, Rothschild registered a .940 save percentage her junior year and .930 save percentage as a sophomore. In 2006, she received the New England Region All-Scholastic Award and earned the Top Goaltender Award at "Hockey Night in Boston" in 2005.
Aside from welcoming the newcomers, Head Coach Katie King also announced the captains for the 2007-08 season. Seniors Cristin Stuart, Lee-J Mirasolo and Deborah Spillane will lead the team to another successful year.
This will be Deb Spillane's second year serving as captain. As a junior, Spillane scored 13 goals and dished out 17 assists for 30 overall points. She received USCHO Offensive Player of the Week after recording two goals and two assists against St. Lawrence and Clarkson all in one weekend. Spillane recorded her 100th career point on an assist against Maine on Feb. 24, 2007. She also earned the Hockey East Sportsmanship Award after only being whistled three times for six penalty minutes all season. She participated in the 2006 National Women's Hockey Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., and played for the USA Hockey U-22 team in August 2006.
Mirasolo, another forward, scored two goals in 2007-08. She played in all 36 games. She also earned Athletic Director Award for Academic Achievement. In her sophomore year campaign, she also played in all 35 games and notched one goal and one assist.
Stuart, a defenseman, played in all 36 games last season and tallied nine points on a goal and eight assists. She scored one of the four goals in the win against Boston University in the Bean Pot Finals. She finished the season with a +18 rating and earned the Athletic Director Award for Academic Achievement.
