Former Boston College basketball players Jared Dudley and Sean Williams were both selected in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft. Dudley was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 22nd overall selection. Williams was chosen by the New Jersey Nets with the 17th overall pick.
The 2007 draft marked the first time in BC basketball history that two players were selected in the first round. Six Boston College players had previously been first-round choices: Gerry Ward in 1963, Terry Driscoll in 1969, John Bagley in 1982, Dana Barros in 1989, Bill Curley in 1994 and Troy Bell in 2003.
Dudley, who earned 2006-07 Associated Press All-America second-team honors, averaged 19.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this past season, including 19.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in league action. He led all ACC players in minutes played, averaging 38.88 minutes per league game.
Williams averaged 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots in 15 games this past season. He was dismissed from the team in mid-January.
The Atlantic Coast Conference led all conferences with six players selected in the first round. Like BC, Georgia Tech had two players chosen in the first round - Thaddeus Young and Javaris Crittenton. North Carolina's Brandan Wright and Florida State's Al Thornton rounded out the list of ACC choices.
Interestingly enough, Charlotte selected both the ACC Player of the Year (Dudley) and the ACC Rookie of the Year (Wright). Charlotte later traded Wright to Golden State (for Jason Richardson).
