CHESTNUT Hill, Mass - - Sophomore third baseman Eric Campbell drove in three runs and senior Kevin Boggan pitched a two-hitter through 4.0 innings to lift the Boston College baseball team to a 10-2 victory over visiting University of Maryland - Eastern Shore on Saturday.
The win propelled BC to 22-25-1, with its fifth victory in seven games while the Hawks dropped to 9-41.
The Eagles amassed seven runs in its final two innings on offense to erase a pitcher's game which limited both teams to a combined total of five hits through the first six innings. The Hawks picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, shaving BC's advantage to four, 6-2, on an RBI single by Eric Gaines, who then initiated a double-steal on the basepath when Joel Gonzalez scored. The next half-inning saw Campbell's three-run double to right center seal the deal on BC's 11th victory in its last 15 outings.
Seven of the nine Eagle starters hit safely, led by freshman first baseman Michael Belfiore's, who powered three hits on the day. .
Senior Dustin Longchamps of Maryland - Eastern Shore allowed only three hits and fanned five in 6.0 innings but issued five free passes and three wild pitches, one of which plated the game-winning run.
The two teams will meet on Sunday, May 13 at Shea Field for a doubleheader, beginning at 12 noon.
