
Women's Tennis Falls At No. 49 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Women's tennis dropped their second match of the weekend Sunday afternoon as the No. 49 Virginia women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over the Eagles at the Boyd Tinsley Courts. The win improves the Cavaliers' record to 10-8 on the season, 4-5 in the ACC, while the Eagles fall to 4-14, 0-9 ACC.
Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles contests. Caroline Hammond and Lara Alexander topped Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov 8-2 at the No. 1 position, while Amanda Rales and Lindsey Pereira clinched the opening point for Virginia with their 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Brittany Delaney and Gia Nafarrete.
BC drew even, 1-1, when Dasha Cherkasov defeated Maggie Yahner at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. But, Virginia clinched the dual match with three victories just minutes apart. Amanda Rales topped Sarah Svoboda 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. At the No. 4 position, Pereira defeated Alina Sullivan 6-4, 6-1, and Carolina Hammond clinched the dual match with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Gia Nafarrete at the No. 6 position. Lana Krasnopolsky earned her second straight win at No. 1, defeating Jennier Stevens, 7-5, 6-4.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, April 10 when they travel down the road to take on cross-town rival Boston University at 2:00 p.m.
