Women's Tennis Snaps Losing Streak, Defeat BU 4-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Women's tennis headed over to Cambridge yesterday afternoon looking to get back on the winning track and they did so in dramatic fashion, as they edged cross-town rival No. 68 Boston University, 4-3 at Harvard. The win snaps a nine match losing streak for the Eagles and improves their overall record to 5-14.
The Terriers would get on the board first as they would take two out of the three doubles flights. Despite Lana Krasnopolsky and Alina Sullivan edging out Katie Draganova Elizabeth Corrao at No. 2, BU would capture the doubles point with closely contested wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
BC would respond in singles however, as they would win flights one through four earning them their first victory in 10 tries. Lana Krasnopolsky continued to play well as she won for the fifth time in her last six matches, defeating Erin Katims handily, 6-3, 6-1.
Dasha Cherkasov and Lauren Cash would also earn straight set wins as they took down Yana Sadovskaya and Rebecca Row, 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-4 respectively. The match would come down to the No. 4 singles flight between Alina Sullivan and Francine Whu and it was a nail biter.
Whu would take a closely contested first set, 7-5 but Sullivan fought to push it to a third and final set as she took the second set 6-4. The third set were not much different than the first but Sullivan prevailed in impressive fashion, hanging on for a 7-6 (3) decision.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, April 13 as they take on Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. at 3:00 p.m.
